Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia): Fong Lye, Chinatown

Day 2: continuation

We were warmly treated to a scrumptious dinner at Fong Lye Taiwan Restaurant located at No.94, Jalan Imbi, 55100 KL.  We had to wait for about 30 minutes before we could get two tables as this outlet is very small with only a capacity of about 50 customers.

Behold the gigantic pot of fried fish served with soup that was filled to the brim with meatballs, crabsticks, tofu, yam and cartoonish fishcakes.  The food is fantastic, the Basil chicken is so delicious and they serve complimentary shot glasses of lime plum juice and a plate of fruits per table.

The traffic jam in KL is terrible.  We spent almost an hour travelling from Jalan Imbi to Petaling Street in Chinatown after dinner.  If you enjoy alfresco shopping and plan to get last minute souvenirs or you are eyeing the latest (fake) fashion clothes and accessories (e.g. Polo Ralph polo tees, Longchamp Pliage bags, LV, Gucci, Rayban shades), don’t forget to bargain!

Highly recommended by the bf’s extended family, if you are ever in Chinatown, don’t miss the chance to try the famous Air Mata Kucing or “Cat’s eyes drink”, a combination of dried longan, Luo Han Guo and winter melon pieces with rock sugar.  A thirst quencher on a humid hot day!
