Hong Kong: Mongkok, Kowloon

Posted in Hong Kong, Travel by happyhighfashion on November 5, 2009

Thanks to the 1-for-1 Jetstar promotion, our airfare and accommodation was very affordable at S$489.40 per person!

The breakdown:

A pair of Jetstar tickets for S$364 (i.e. S$182 per person).

A 5 nights hotel room stay at Metropark Mongkok via Zuji for S$614.80 (i.e. 307.40 per person).

Day 1:

Upon arrival at the HK Airport at 7.30pm, we headed to the City Bus Airport bay and waited for the Bus A21 at HK Airport to our hotel (5th stop), the Metropark Mongkok conveniently located at 22 Lai Chi Kok Road Mongkok, Kowloon, Hong Kong, and a 2 minutes walk to the Prince Edward MTR Station.

If you have an Octopus card, you don’t have to go to the ticket counter to buy a ticket. You can just tap and board! Very convenient, so keep your Octopus cards! Price: HK$33 a ride per person.

The journey was a breeze and we reached the hotel in 30 minutes and the Bus A21 stops in front of the hotel!  How convenient!  Checked-in and timecheck, it was about 9pm.  The only place we could visit was the Ladies Market or “Women’s Street” located in the heart of Mongkok district, the section of Tung Choi Street between Argyle Street and Dundas Street.  Famished after the 4 hour flight, we had dinner at KFC.

Step 1: Look at the menu.

Step 2: Order and pay.

Step 3: Collect your food at another counter.

Step 4: Admire your food and eat!

Finger licking good chicken wings in Hong Kong compared to Singapore’s KFC.

We spent the next 2 hours walking down Ladies Market (女人街 nu3 ren2 jie1) and checking out the psychedelic displays of colourful items on sale!  From kinky men’s underwear, fake Tiffany & Co. accessories, fun HK street signs, stationary and footwear… There is much to shop here!

There is so much to see even at night in Hong Kong and we wandered onto Sai Yeung Choi Street South with a huge SEPHORA sign staring back at us!  We went in, signed up for an instant VIP membership (even though we are tourists) to enjoy the “Sexy Prices” offers.

These are scented “crazy sticks” that you can apply on yourself (i.e. perfume sticks).  So lovely!

We ended our night off with a sweet tooth at Hui Lau Shan 许留山 at Tung Choi Street near Ladies Market.

Our Thursday Special mango set for HK30!
